Minerals, an international, peer-reviewed Open Access journal. Dear Colleague, With the decrease of high-quality primary metal ores around the world, there has been a shift to also process alternative and urban ores in order to meet the high demands of metals and raw materials that are needed for the various technologies that are used in our daily life. Mathematical modeling has for a long time been of crucial importance for the understanding and prediction of phenomena in the heavy industries. Previously, the main source of knowledge was practical experience with operations and use of simplified, but fundamental understanding of the chemistry and materials that was involved in the processes. Question: What are some uses and advantages of electrometallurgy? Answer 1/2 For ordinary metallurgical work the electric furnace, requiring as it does the intervention of the boiler and steam-engine, or of the gas or oil engine, with a consequent loss of energy, has not usually proved so economical as an ordinary direct fired furnace.

Electrometallurgy is usually the last stage in metal production and is therefore preceded by pyrometallurgical or hydrometallurgical operations. The electrolysis can be done on a molten metal oxide (smelt electrolysis) which is used for example to produce.

Electrometallurgy. The branch of process metallurgy dealing with the use of electricity for smelting or refining of metals. The electrochemical effect of an electric current brings about the reduction of metallic compounds, and thereby the extraction of metals from their ores (electrowinning) or the pu-rification of the metals (electrorefining).

Prediction of the chemical composition of the metal and the slag based on mathematical modeling of the phase interaction not only opens up additional routes for improving the economic parameters of technological processes, but also allows their optimization in the design : Vladislav Boronenkov, Michael Zinigrad, Leopold Leontiev, Edward Pastukhov, Mikhail Shalimov, Sergey.

Kaes provides a wealth of information in his book "Refinery Process Modeling". I've been involved in this work for a long time, but was still able to pick up a few "tricks of the trade" while reading. Everybody that's involved in this work should have a copy. Electrometallurgy. Many processes that are used to reduce metal ores or refine metals are based on electrolysis. Collectively these processes are referred to as electrometallurgy.

Electrometallurgical procedures can be broadly differentiated according to whether they involve electrolysis of a molten salt or of an aqueous solution.

Electrometallurgy is a broad field but it is not a new one. It was the great Faraday in the s who discovered laws covering the electrodeposition of metals and its relation to the current passed and equivalent weight of the metal undergoing depo- tion.

a very important contribution to the understanding of electrometallurgical processes Cited by: In this paper, in order to make the simulation of the whole process of electrochemical machining(ECM), the characteristic of electric field and flow field is made detailed analysis in the gap of ECM.

Mathematical-physical models of ECM simulation is set up based on the basic theories of electrochemistry, electric field and flow field.

A common pyrometallurgical route for the recovery of numerous metals and rare earths is high-temperature molten salt electrolysis. This process involves an electrolyte made of a molten salt in which the metal to be recovered, most commonly present in its oxide form, is dissolved.
